Realizzare una locomotiva a vapore italiana in scala Z è probabilmente una scelta buffa e inconsueta, ma nella mia carriera modellistica ho tentato anche questa. In una scala tanto piccola, il rodiggio 1'C della classica BR 74 tedesca (modello Märklin 8895) assomiglia senza troppi problemi a quello delle 625 FS, ma... fare "solo" una 625 era fin troppo facile! Così ho optato per una 600, vale a dire le macchine originali della Rete Adriatica, a vapore saturo e doppia espansione, da cui sono state poi derivate le 625 a vapore surriscaldato e semplice espansione (dettagli).

Some years ago, I built an Italian steam engine in Z scale, using frame and motor from classic German engine BR 74 (Märklin model 8895). I selected the Class 600, an engine designed by Rete Adriatica just before the constitution of Italian State Railways (1905). These engines were characterised by a compound motor and a few years later the new Class 625 was derived from Class 600, removing compound and introducing superheating technology. My own 600 is built of plastic sheets, can perfectly run on any Z layout and belongs to Era I (around 1910). I also built some matching freight cars of the same Era.
